How a NYC Fintech Startup Built 25,000 Monthly Organic Visits in 11 Months.
Client: A New York fintech startup
Results
From near-zero in 11 months
Annual recurring revenue attributed to organic
Long-tail financial queries ranking page 1
Quality backlinks from financial publications and media
The Challenge
Competing against category giants with enormous domain authority and content teams. Starting from near-zero organic presence. Regulatory constraints on financial claims limiting content flexibility.
Our Solution
Long-tail content strategy targeting queries the category giants were too large to pursue efficiently; original research earning media coverage and backlinks; technical SEO on all app landing and feature pages.
They found the white space in our category that the big players can't be bothered to own. Now we own it.

The Challenge
Personal finance is one of the most competitive content categories on the web. NerdWallet, Bankrate, and Investopedia have thousands of writers, decade-old domain authority, and ranking for virtually every high-volume query. For a startup with a new domain and a small content budget, going head-to-head on those keywords isn't a strategy — it's a way to burn runway with nothing to show for it.
We needed a different approach.
Our Approach
The insight: category giants optimise for high-volume keywords. They ignore the long tail — queries with 50–500 monthly searches that are too small to justify a dedicated article from a major publisher. But these queries number in the thousands, and in aggregate they represent enormous search demand. More importantly, they're often higher-intent: someone searching "best savings account for irregular income self-employed NYC" is far closer to opening an account than someone searching "best savings account".
We mapped 3,000+ of these long-tail queries and built a systematic content programme around them. Each article was short (600–900 words), highly specific, and optimised for the exact query. The compliance workflow was redesigned with pre-approved templates that reduced legal review time from 10 days to 2, allowing publishing cadence to scale.
Original research — quarterly financial wellness surveys — earned coverage from personal finance publications and built domain authority via quality backlinks. Technical SEO on feature pages ensured the app's core landing pages were fully indexed and performing well on Core Web Vitals.
Results
11 months in: 25,000 monthly organic visits, 600+ page-1 long-tail rankings, 450+ quality backlinks, and $200K ARR attributed to the organic channel.
The Challenge
- Competing against NerdWallet, Bankrate, and Investopedia — DA 80+ sites with thousands of content writers
- Near-zero organic traffic; domain relatively new with low authority
- Regulatory constraints required all financial content to be reviewed by compliance before publishing — slowing output
- Large competitors ranking for every high-volume personal finance keyword
What We Did
- Long-tail content strategy: targeted 3,000+ queries the giants don't pursue because volume is too low individually, but massive in aggregate
- Original research: quarterly financial wellness surveys earning coverage from personal finance publications
- Technical SEO on feature pages: schema, Core Web Vitals, structured landing pages for each app feature
- Compliance-friendly content workflow: templated formats pre-approved by legal; reduced review time from 10 days to 2
- Link building via financial media, personal finance blogger relationships, and data journalism pitches
